The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken a significant step toward ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process for the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of the Election Project Plan Committee (EPPC).
The Commission made the announcement in a statement on its site on Wednesday. The committee, tasked with developing a strategic framework for the polls, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the INEC Conference Hall in Abuja.
Chaired by Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus, the committee is mandated to create a comprehensive roadmap for the conduct of the elections. Its responsibilities include reviewing the Terms of Reference, developing a Work-Plan, establishing sub-committees, designing an Elections Project Plan (EPP) Template, and setting submission timelines for planning documents.
In her address at the inauguration, Prof. Gumus emphasised the critical role of early planning in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
She stated, “The importance of early planning cannot be overstated in ensuring a seamless electoral process. I urge all committee members to discharge their responsibilities diligently to uphold electoral integrity and transparency.”
The committee comprises several high-ranking INEC officials, including:
- Mr. Kenneth Ukeagu – Chair, Tenders Board (Member)
- Dr. Baba Bila – Chair, EOLC (Member)
- Mr. Sam Olumekun – Chair, EPMC (Member)
- Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru – Chair, BEI (Member)
