Kaduna State, under Governor Uba Sani, has taken a monumental step towards revolutionizing its transportation system with the official launch of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT) System, a 24-kilometer corridor connecting Kawo to Sabon Tasha.
The event also marked the groundbreaking for the Southern Terminal, a state-of-the-art central motor park designed to serve as a key hub for the state’s transportation network on its southern axis.
The KBRT, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and the second in the country, represents a significant milestone in Kaduna State’s efforts to enhance public transportation, promote sustainable urban development, and improve the quality of life for its residents.
Governor Uba Sani, who presided over the launch, described the project as a testament to his administration’s commitment to transforming Kaduna into a modern, connected state.
“The KBRT and Southern Terminal are more than just infrastructure projects; they are symbols of our vision for a better Kaduna,” said Governor Sani. “By streamlining transportation and reducing congestion, we are creating a safer, more efficient environment for our citizens and boosting economic growth.”
The project is a result of a strong partnership between Kaduna State and the French Development Agency (AFD). The French Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Marc Fonbaustier, who attended the launch, emphasised the strategic importance of the collaboration.
“This project is a testament to the strong partnership between France and Kaduna State,” said Ambassador Fonbaustier. “We are proud to support initiatives that promote sustainable development and improve the lives of Nigerians.”
The Federal Government also expressed its support for the project, with the Minister of Transportation, Said Ahmed Alkali, commending Kaduna State for its efforts to modernize its transportation system.
“The Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit will not only enhance mobility but also drive economic development,” said Alkali. “The Federal Government is fully committed to supporting this project and ensuring the speedy execution of the Kaduna Light Rail Project.”
Governor Sani also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who allocated 100 billion Naira in the 2025 budget for the Kaduna Light Rail Transit (KLRT).
“President Tinubu has always been a steadfast supporter of Kaduna State,” said Governor Sani. “His commitment to our vision is reflected in the Federal Government’s generous funding for the KLRT project. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and support.”
The KBRT and Southern Terminal are expected to transform urban mobility in Kaduna, reducing travel time, easing congestion, and providing a safer, more efficient commuting experience for residents. With the support of international partners and the Federal Government, Kaduna State is setting a new standard for sustainable urban development in Nigeria.
