Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to spearhead a united opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, while firmly denying rumours of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This was made known in a statement released on Saturday by his media office, Atiku dismissed the speculation as “a total fallacy that holds no merit in logic,” reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the PDP.
The statement described Atiku as a “principal bonafide member of the PDP,” Nigeria’s main opposition party, and clarified that his primary focus is on building a “robust coalition” of opposition parties to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement, Atiku has “persistently called for a coalition of opposition political parties in Nigeria with the aim of ousting the incompetent and pain-inflicting APC, in order to give Nigerians a new lease of life.”
The former Vice President’s office condemned the defection rumours as “antithetical to the objective of the grand coalition,” which seeks to unite opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from the APC’s governance. “Atiku is advocating a robust coalition that would accommodate all opposition parties, the PDP inclusive,” the statement added.
Atiku’s media team urged Nigerians to disregard the “unverified information,” stating, “Any insinuation to the contrary is contrived to confuse Nigerians about the magnitude of the grand coalition that is at work to rescue Nigeria from the grip of the APC.”
The statement reiterating Atiku’s dedication to the PDP and his mission to lead a united opposition front against President Tinubu in 2027.
